What do you do on a Saturday morning in the summer? At Saint Mary School Chardon, a team of alumni, parents, teachers, and junior high students came together to tear out the playground. You may ask why come to help demolish the old playground. Seventh grade student Emily Benardo says, “I want the new playground, so I came to help make it happen faster.”
Under the direction of Mr. Gorski, Mrs. Cardenas, Mrs. Allin, and Mr. Petrovic, the students in the Junior High took the audience from Chardon, Ohio to the fictitious city of Agrabah. Students used their STEM skills to design the sets, choreograph the dances, and run the sound board. Students understood the importance of teamwork while working together to perform for their peers, family and friends. Mrs. Fedak said, “It was nice to have a live performance again. Hearing the laughter and applause while performing brought smiles to the students’ faces.
April is filled with so many activities, but one St. Mary Tradition ties our Faith and Family together. During Lent the Stations of the Cross help us realize how much we can learn from Jesus’ last day on Earth. St. Mary School was proud to present four different Stations of the Cross prayer services this year. Mrs. Merkle’s Class, led us through the stations with their hand drawn representation of Jesus' journey for both the school and Parish. Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. Tracy’s classes led the school and parish in a Living Stations, where students take on the roles of Jesus and those who were with Him.
