St. Mary School’s Student Council decided to take action to support those who are in need of our help in Ukraine. The junior high leaders decided the best way to help was to collect money but they wanted to show support as well. Ribbons were the solution and the seventh grade was ready to help. St. Mary’s seventh grade class has been working on making blue and yellow ribbons. These ribbons will be given to each donor so they can proudly wear them and show their support for the people of Ukraine. In order to make the biggest impact, ribbons will also be available to parishioners during two of the Parish Fish Fry evenings as well as after select Masses. St. Mary Fish Fry is every Friday during Lent from 4:30-7:30. When asked why the student council wants to raise the money for the people of Ukraine, Hannah Passow, student council co-president says, “It is important to show people how to give. We want to show the love of Christ and that we care.”
The collected funds will go to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). The bishops have a Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe which will provide humanitarian aid emergency services to the people of Ukraine. Since a relationship with the bishops in Ukraine is already established through the USCCB, our donations will be put to work quickly.
