Welcome to Kindergarten at St. Mary School Chardon
At. St. Mary School, we are excited to invite Kindergarten students into a full time learning program that includes all the special offerings that our upper elementary children enjoy. Our Kindergarten students participate weekly in art, music, physical education, technology, Spanish, religion and library classes taught by instructors in these subject areas. Our students learn to navigate a full day schedule and quickly become acclimated to the elementary school environment.
We believe our Kindergarten students are ready to take on the responsibility of attending weekly Masses and even help plan and run an all-school Mass themselves! Our Kindergarten students are also paired with upper grade student “Prayer Partners” for the year. These partners help Kindergarten students to participate in special school projects, sit with them during all-school Masses, and serve as mentors and special friends throughout the year.
Our Kindergarteners are also involved in our school’s STEM program which immerses the students in problem solving based learning across many subject areas. St. Mary Chardon is the only Ohio Department of Education STEM Designated School in Geauga County and one of very few across the state. STEM learning helps our students to prepare for the jobs of the future. We believe strongly that all of these components come together to make our Kindergarten program the best! We not only have a strong and relevant academic curriculum, but also take pride in working to enrich our students’ learning in spirituality and service to others. Our small class size allows teachers to meet students where they are. Our school is a small family that takes care of one another.

St. Mary School is centered on the Gospel of Jesus Christ and focuses on both academic excellence and personal growth. We welcome all students between the ages of pre-school through eighth grade who seek to learn and grow in a caring, Christian environment. Our students develop to be lifelong learners who comprise 21st century skills, such as collaboration and teamwork, creativity and imagination, critical thinking and problem solving. This will prepare them for a successful future and help them to become active and caring members of their communities.
Here are some highlights of our Kindergarten curriculum:
“Everything you need to know you learned in Kindergarten." Kindergarten is an exciting year filled with much growth, academically, socially, spiritually, and physically. Together we learn to be kind and a friend to others. We learn reading, writing and arithmetic. We take all of this knowledge and integrate in with our Social Studies and Science programs. We love doing a variety of STEM/STEAM projects through the year to enhance our curriculum. We learn prayers and just how much God loves us! While we participate and lead the school in many prayer activities with our prayer partners, we end the year leading the end of the year school prayer service all by ourselves! It is an amazing year of growth!
