This past week Mr. Mike Wisnor from the Ohio Catholic Credit Union spoke to our students after our all school Mass. He challenged them to a matching fund charity endeavor. Ohio Catholic Credit Union gifted us with a $500 check for a charity of our choice. The challenge is for our school to match the $500. Students were given “funny money” to take home. On the back they were directed to write how the earned the money that they brought in for the challenge. The faculty and students decided to donate the money to Toys for Appalachia. Over the years we have noticed that the children we send toys to in Kentucky are in need of socks, mittens, hats and other winter necessities. Along with the donated toys, we will gift them with the charity monies collected. It is our way of helping the less fortunate. “Helping” is the spiritual gift we will be working on in the month of November. We are very grateful to Mr. Wisnor and the Ohio Catholic Credit Union for thinking of St. Mary School Chardon for this project.
On Monday afternoon, our Student Council will host the annual Halloween Carnival for our students. Student Council plans and implements this event for our children. It is always such a fun time for everyone. Thank you to Mrs. Yeager for moderating the Council and the event.
Our all school Mass this week will be on Tuesday at 9:30 am. November 1st is the Feast of All Saints and a holy day of obligation. Our students prepare a special entrance procession for this Mass. We will also have our Pre-Kindergarten children joining us for the first part of the Mass. This is the first time that they will be part of our school Mass. After Mass we will be inducting our new Junior Honor Society members. After the induction we will host a reception for them and their families in the school library. Congratulations to all!
There will be no all school Mass on Friday, November 4th.
During the first week of November our first graders will be administered the CoGat Tests. This is the students’ first experience with national level testing. A good night sleep and a hearty and healthy breakfast will help them to focus and do their best!
