There is a nationwide endeavor taking place called “Hello Ambassadors” that promotes the idea that a simple hello can help students not to feel alone at lunch and recess. Many schools have designed “buddy benches.” If a student sits on this bench, an ambassador may come to the student and ultimately finds some one for them to play with.
At St. Mary School, our fifth graders have taken the kindness challenge. They are meeting their goal by doing random acts of kindness in the school and at home. Many of these acts have promoted inclusion on the playground and in the lunch room. In addition, our STAND program members are designing a picnic table that will have “Standley” painted on the top and the words from our daily pledge –“You are not alone” on the benches. Mrs Rodriguez, the moderator of STAND and the members of the group will be working on this in the near future. We are blest at St. Mary School to have an organization that promotes acceptance as modeled by the greatest teacher, Jesus Christ.
Last Tuesday, we kicked off our magazine drive. This fundraiser is sponsored by the school and any funds made are used to keep our children safe during lunch and recess. Please support this effort by purchasing a magazine from our students. Purchases can be made online. Please call the school office for more details.
Our Junior High students spent last Friday in University Circle visiting various museums. Mrs Carla Solomon, our Junior High Social Studies teacher, planned and arranged this field trip. The students visited museums that enhanced their particular course of study. This was a wonderful opportunity for our students.
We are midway through the first quarter of school. Interims were posted online this past Wednesday. It is a good snapshot of where your child is academically at this moment. There is plenty of time to bring grades up to par or maintain them if you are off to a good start!
Coming up this Wednesday, September 30th, our faculty and students will be participating in our annual picture day. We need everyone to wear their best smiles! Parents: Join us Wednesday evening for "Parenting the Snapchat Generation" 7pm in the Banquet Hall. This event is free and open to the community!
