The teachers and students began the season with a prayer service in our school lobby on Monday afternoon. Our Advent wreath was newly refurbished by our school nurse, Mrs. Annie Minascula, and blessed by Father Redmond. Mrs. Merkle, our third grade teacher, read us “Silver Packages” by Cynthia Ryland. This is a story about a young Appalachian boy and a rich man who every year threw silver packages from the train around Christmas time. Year after year the poor little boy always wished for a doctor’s kit – but never received one. In the end this poor boy becomes a doctor and returns to Appalachia to help his people.
The story helped us focus on the service project presently occurring in our parish – Toys for Appalachia. As in the past we are asking parish and school families for new or gently used toys. This year we are also asking for children’s socks. The organization that provided socks to this community is no longer doing so. It gets very cold in the mountains in the winter time. Please find it in your hearts to make a donation to this very good cause! “Whatsoever you do to the least of my brethren, that you do unto Me.”
We warmly invite all of our families and friends to our Christmas Band Concert on Monday, December 5th. Mr. Littman, our band instructor, has been working with both the Beginning and Advanced Bands for this performance. The band will perform both at 2 and 7 pm in the Banquet Room. Please come for an enjoyable time of Christmas music and fun!
December 8th is a holy day of obligation. Our all school Mass will be at 9:30 am. Please note the time change. The Mass is being hosted by our Kindergarten students. A special visitor will make his appearance after the Mass. Join us for this special Feast of our Lady. We will not have an all school Mass on Friday.
When sorting and cleaning through your items at home before the holidays, please remember the St. Mary School Lego Club with any Legos that you may no longer be using. Our club is newly formed and in need of more Legos. The club is free to our students, so we have no funds to speak of. Thank you in advanced for considering our need.
Joyfully in Christ,
