Social and cyber bullying are very timely and important issues facing students in every school today. Thanks to the efforts of our development director, Maureen Intihar, and the generosity of our PTU, St. Mary School hosted three sessions of helpful ways to recognize and deflect bullying. Jerry Ackerman, a renowned national speaker, spoke to the students in two sessions last Wednesday. In his first presentation he addressed our younger students followed by a special presentation for the junior high. The presentations were interactive, relevant, and engaging! Later that evening, Mr. Ackerman presented “Parenting the Snapchat Generation for our parents, parish, and community at large. I am sure that those in attendance would agree that his message was clear and helpful for both parents and teachers.
Last Friday most of our students were traveling to various places on field trips to enhance their classroom learning. Our fourth and fifth graders walked to the Geauga Theater to see a presentation of “The Giver” by Lois Lowry. They have been reading and discussing the book in class and were excited to see the book come alive on stage! Our junior high students traveled on a pilgrimage to St. John the Evangelist Cathedral in downtown Cleveland. This pilgrimage is especially designed for junior high students of the diocese. It included a tour, Mass celebrated by Bishop Lennon, and lunch .In addition to being a wonderful experience, the students and teachers were fulfilling a part of our Catholicity goal for our Five –Year- Accreditation Improvement Plan. Pilgrimage is a practice we will be focusing on this academic school year.
Our youngest students planned and hosted our all-school Mass this past Friday. What a joyful celebration! It was the Feast of the Holy Angels. Thank you third graders for doing a fine job leading us in prayer and song!
Please remember that our magazine drive is in full swing. The money raised will be used to help keep our students safe at recess and lunch. Thank you for your support!
