This past week St. Mary School opened its doors to our faculty and students for the 2016-2017 academic year!
We had a very positive and productive start to the year. The faculty participated in an all-day retreat day on the Feast of the Assumption. Terri Baldwin and Terri Preskar led the teacher in the “Joyfully Gifted” program. It was a very uplifting way to begin our time together. We also participated in an Opening Faculty meeting, New Family Night, “Drop-In Day”, and prepared our classrooms and lesson plans for the first week of school! Whew! What a week!
Our students came back to us refreshed and renewed from the summer break! They all look like they have grown at least 3 inches and are sporting tans and happy smiles! Parents enjoyed our “Yahoo/Boohoo” Coffee and Doughnuts after dropping off their children on the first day of classes. During our first week of classes we shared classroom protocols and rules, practiced safety procedures, conducted a fire drill with Fire Marshall Bohm, learned to navigate lockers, attended Curriculum Nights, and concluded with an all-school Mass on Friday.
The faculty discussed and decided that our school theme this year will be – “Joyfully Gifted for Our Journey.” J= Jesus, O=Others, Y= Yourself. Our opening Mass focused on this theme. Being prepared, as the Gospel tells us for the week, means keeping Jesus, others, yourself – in that order. This joy will then allow us to share our spiritual gifts with those around us, and results in our journey to God – fully and completely. We invite you to join us at our all-school Masses every Friday at 9:20 am in our church.
We are so happy to be back in full swing of school! We ask for your continued prayers for our faculty, students, and staff and in return we will continue to pray for our parish family!
Joyfully in Christ,
